Literacy & Numeracy

Did you know
that one in every three adults in Alberta has difficulty writing or reading the
printed material commonly found at work, at home or in the community?
Do you or someone you know need help with reading, writing, spelling or basic number
skills? We can provide help for those adults who want to improve their language skills.

Reading opens the door to a world of fairy tales, fantasy, adventure, drama,
suspense, knowledge and wonder.....
Literacy is the key to unlocking that door!

  • Use it or lose it! Your brain is a muscle that needs exercise, read something
    everyday
  • Reading can happen anywhere - at the bus stop, hockey game, doctor's office -
    even the bathroom
  • Let your children help you cook & have them read out the ingredients for the recipe
  • Start a family photo album with your children. Help them write a story about the
picture and paste the story in the album
  • Literacy is a gift that doesn't come easily for many people. Share your gift by
volunteering with the literacy program, become a tutor for someone else.

Do any of these statements sound familiar?
  • "I'm sorry, I don't have my glasses with me. Could you tell me what this says?"
  • "I have a sprained wrist and can't fill out the form. If I give you the information, will
    you write it for me?"
  • "Dear, my hands are all sticky from the bread dough. Would you please open the
mail and read it to me?"
  • "John, I value your opinion. Would you review this document and give the board
    your thoughts?"

People who have trouble reading and writing have developed many different
coping skills to help them deal with these situations.

These people deserve more than just coping skills

We offer FREE tutoring to help improve literacy skills.
