River of Life - Aboriginal Youth Suicide Prevention

The River of Life workshop is designed to provide information & interventions for caregivers working with Aboriginal youth at risk of suicide, aged 15 to 24.

Workshop topics include: Story of Aboriginal People (past & present); Aboriginal Spirituality  & Spiritual Aspects, Teachings; Protective & Risk Factors; Differences between self harm & suicide attempts; Recommendations from Literature Reviews; Community Resources

Responsibilities of an Executor

It is important that we all plan for the inevitable. By ensuring you have a proper will done and have an executor appointed to look after things, you know your wishes will be carried out. Often, when there is no will, family members will have to sort everything out. This can lead to conflict among them and it is also very hard to deal with the loss of a family member and no one wants to deal with everything.

 

ASIST - Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

February 27th & 28th

More than 4000 Canadians kill themselves each year. The key to suicide prevention is trained individuals who are ready, willing & able to get involved with each person at risk. This workshop will train you to be one of those individuals.

 This course will give you the certification you need to purchase ammunition & long barrel guns.

 

Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Certification   (CRFSC)

 April 17th

9:00 to 5:00

Registration Deadline – April 9th 

 

Registration fee does not include any provincial costs to get registered

 This course will give you the certification you need to purchase hand guns.

 

Hunter Education

 

April 23rd, 24th and 25th

Friday 5:00 to 9:00

Saturday & Sunday 9:00 to 5:00

Registration fee - $90

Registration deadline – April 19th

 

This is a 20 hour program designed by Alberta Conservation, and is provincially mandated for anyone who wishes to hunt in the province of Alberta.. Once you complete this course you will receive your provincial certificate.

ATV Safety Awareness

May 13th    

6:00 to 9:00

At Northern Lakes College

 Registration fee - $40

This program is being offered twice

Registration deadlines:  May 13th and again on May 20th

 

The short course will look at safe riding practices, exposure to the dangers of an ATV and the proper sizes of an ATV.

There will be draws for safety equipment during the program.

 Note: this is not the course endorsed by the Alberta Safety Council, which is a 6 hours course & participants be riding appropriate sized ATV’s

 

Dog Obedience

May 5th to June 23rd  - Every Wednesday

7:00 to 8:00

May 5th at Northern Lakes College - High Prairie campus

May 12th to June 23rd at the Ag. Plex

Payment of Fees:

Registration is not complete until the fees are paid. NSF cheques will be assessed an additional fee.

Refunds, Transfers & Withdrawals: Refunds will be provided only if two working days notice (a phone call is acceptable) before the start date of any course. If less than 2 days notice is provided, the course fee can be transferred to another course within six months. If you are unable to attend your course you may arrange for someone to take your place. If no notice is provided, no refund or transfer will apply.

Course Cancellations: PRCEC reserves the right to cancel a course if minimum enrollments are not met or if staffing or scheduling problems arise. A full refund will apply, unless the student requests a transfer to another course.
